Lemur Skull (Aye-aye) Cast Replica - Daubentonia madagascariensis #BC-353

-Size: 3&½"L x 2&½"W x 2&½"H

-Species: Daubentonia madagascariensis

-Notes: Perhaps one of the most unusual primates, the aye-aye is found on the island of Madagascar. About the size of a house cat, it has very large ears, a reduction in teeth with rodent-like incisors, and a specialized middle finger used to detect prey. This finger is narrower than the others and can practically swivel in all directions. This is useful when hunting their preferred food choice: insect larvae. Using their huge ears and long middle finger, the aye-aye taps tree trunks and branches, listening for echoing sounds within the tree. When they locate an insect tunnel, they use their incisors to rip the outer bark until the tunnel is revealed. Then using their slender finger, they locate and fish out the larvae. This adult specimen would be an excellent addition to any primatology program. 2-part skull (separate cranium & jaw).
