Dayak Carved Asian Palm Civet Skull - Paradoxurus hermaphroditus

  • -Skull Size: 4"L x 2&1/2"H
  • -Skull on Stand Size: 4"L x 2&1/2"W x 4"H
  • -Species: Paradoxurus hermaphroditus
  • -Notes: A fantastic specimen of a modern, hand-carved civet skull from the Dayak tribe of Indonesia. This beautiful art form has been passed down for generations, and has only become more intricate through the passage of time. Dayak carved skulls of yesteryear also included orangutans, as well as human victims of head-hunting. Though often referred to as a "tree cat," civets are actually more cloely related to mongooses and hyaenas. They are also the animal responsible for "kopi luwak," (the world's most expensive coffee), in which the coffee bean must first be ingested and excreted by the civet. A wooden display base is also included with this specimen. The jaws are glued open.
